I thought because I could not hear Becky (Young) Massey's address to the Reunion, I would put it here.
WE LOVE OUR RANGERS
Love is my key word for this evening. I was so impressed by the unexpected love and caring I found as I received the reservations for the roundup. A good number were returned to me with regrets stating that they couldn't attend but
they sent warm wishes to all of you and a special thanks to all of those working hard on the roundup, making it
possible now, in the past, and in the future. I want to share just a couple of these representative comments as they
belong to all of you.
DON HARP class of '61: I cannot attend. Will miss seeing everyone. Hopefully someone will take a lot of
photos and post them on our "Olney Page".
TOM SCHNELL class of "49: As much as I'd like to there it's not going to happen for a couple of reasons:
I live 50 miles away and an evening 100 mile trip wouldn't be fun after my usual martini!!
I'm 91 Years old. I surely doubt any of my old classmates would be there!
But I'll be thinking of you and all those great years that started for me in 1946!
Thanks, and keep it going.
Some of these Tangers sent not only caring words but also checks to help with the cost of the Roundup.
They bothered to spare a stamp and take the time to share a few words with you, even though they couldn't
attend. We greatefully thank them.
Well guess what Tom Schnell, a few have done one better than your class of '49. Marian Cowell, class of '43,
and Robert Brandburg, class of '44, are here tonight! We want to thank Marian for her many years of service
on the Roundup committee from the very beginning.
And Robert has served on the first Roundup committee and is still serving tonight asa class representative.
This year he was the first to get his reservation in, so he earned a special prize. We"ve heard he likes to go
fishing, so we have a bottle of Ranger Ready insect spray to use on his fishing trips. We also have for both
Marian and Robert a special metal Ranger Roudup wall hanging in appreciation of their many years of caring
and service.
We also want to thank all those that added a dolar or two to their registration fee. Every little bit helps.
Traveling 2,620,000 miles from Pahrump, Nevada to our Ranger Roundup is Tom And Penny Jagely. They
have come the furthest and we are rewarding them with a box of Marcia's Buckeyes, so they will have a
special taste of Ohio to remember us by.
We also have here tonight alumni coming from the states of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois,
Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Virginia. NOW THAT'S "RANGER LOVE"!
Especially for those that have joined us for the first time, I was asked to share a quick history.
In 1846 A log building was erected by Augustus Prentice and Isaac Rideout in Ross Township
at the corner of East Broadway and Wales Road.
In 1854 A small frame building was erected on Hanley Road, Now known as Lemoyne Road.
In 1876 A one room brick building was built as the 1st Olney School. It was just north of the
OLD PLANK ROAD, now Known as Woodville Road. A teacher, Henry Crane, named the
school after a Professor Edward Olney whom he greatly admired.
In 1920 A 2nd Olney School, which had 4 rooms, was built at the same location,
In 1927 A portable building was construcyed to hold grades 1-8, due to the increasing
population. Grades 9-12 attended Waite High School.
In 1936 The first high school in Ross Township construction was approved by the voters.
In 1939 The grade achoolers transferred into the new building in January and in the fall
the high school students that had attended Rossford and Lake High Schools now
had a high school of their own. When it first opened, Olney was said to be "the
showplace of Northwestern Ohio" and students were assigned tour duty to guide visitors.
In 1940 The 1940's brought us WWII and the minimum wage was only $.30 per hour. It also
brought us the first class to graduate from Olney High School in 1940.
In 1955 With the 50's came the Korean War, the minimum wage was $.75 an hour, and Olney
Elementary was built in 1955.
In 1963 In the 1960's Neil Armstrong would walk on the moon and the minimum wage was $1.00
an hour, and Olney High School was replaced with the new Northwood High school in
1963.
In 1964 The first alumni banquet was held, prepared by the Northwood Mother's Club, and
was held in the school cafeteria with dancing in the auditorinm. It was Pauline McStay
of '48 who planned and brought to fruition the 1st Ranger Roundup.
For those of you 70's graduates came the end of the Vietnam War, the 1976 Bicentennial, and the
minimum wage was $1.45-$1.65.
Have you noticed there were several wars in Ranger history. When I mentioned that "LOVE" would be
a key word tonight, I had to include the love of country of our veterans through the various wars that have
kept us all free and safe. and our love and gratitude for them. Would all our veterans please stand.
Let;s all show them our love and appreciation.
Some previous locations for the Roundup were the Millbury Fire Hall. Yorkshire Banquet Hall, DC Rance,
and the Sunrise Banquet Hall.
Besides Pauline Mc Stay, we are grateful for some of the following names of past committee members
that are not withus : June and Gloria Goeckerman, Joanne Brandburg, Erma Marqyette, Marian Cowell, Phillis Frey,
Joyce Felhaber,Donna Canaday, NormaHeider, Larry Brough, Patricia Cousino, Roberta Southerland, and Glenda Ratliff.

APPLAUSE UNTIL ALL NAMES ARE ANNOUNCED). Kay Vargo, Csrol Crosser, Donna Golembiewski, Corinne
Robinson, Pat Keller, Dawn Woyome. The real cactus plants on tables 5-10 are for you. You will find your names
on them.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK.
We also have many class reps with us tonight to whom we want to express a big thank you.
Again, one more time, I want to mention the word "LOVE" Rangers give love a special meaning.
We have 19 couples here that are both Ranger Alumni. Their hearts learned and spoke the same language
at our Ranger school-the languageof "LOVE". They found that one special person there.
Ranger schools-the love lanuage of "Love". They found yjat one special person there. We'd like to
recognize these couples tonight and give them a little gift, to keep that romance going. They can
find it at the front, with their name on it. Please stand when your name is called.

Finally, words of advice to our fellow Rangers out there are
"The best thing to hold on to in life is each other".
RANGERS FOREVER AND ALWAYS
ABOUT THE ROUNDUP.
Ranger Round-Up has been a recurring event beginning in the 1940’s for the purpose of keeping schoolmates from Olney High School connected throughout the years. Since 2005 the Northwood High School classes of 1964 through 1980 have been added and the response has been very enthusiastic. Requests have come from later classes to attend as well. That is certainly a possibility for the future. In recent years, the reunion has been held every 3-4 years, but is now at 5 years.
The Ranger Round-Up Association was organized a few years ago to keep classmates close. Each class has at least one voluntary representative who is responsible to contact the classmates and maintain current records to share with the Association. The class representative(s) also attends the planning meetings (2-4), assists with issuing the invitations, and helps at the reunion event as needed (greeting, decorations, etc.). There is also a follow-up meeting after the reunion to critique the event and come up with ways to make the next one even better! If you would like to be a class representative, please contact your current class representative to see if you can help. A list of current class representatives will be maintained on this website
Also posted on this website are the class photographs from all the years of Olney and Northwood High Schools. It’s very interesting to look back at them and recall many fond memories!
There is also a link on this website where you can provide the Association with changes to keep your current information It is very easy and very helpful! We don’t want to lose contact with anyone! If you decide you have no interest in knowing about up coming reunions, please enter that information on the change of address page. We don't want to anger anyone when we try to contact you.
For questions and additional information, please feel free to contact your class representative(s), the chairperson.
or me.
